Art, Wellness,Love Converge and Connect Friends

I admit, I do this out of a love and admiration for the people I write about. If you read this anyone, maybe it will be a sort of time pouch, but if not, it is most important how real these people are to me and what they share with me, not just a blog connected to another blog and another.

Today nothing is about me or my work. It is about this work of making togetherness and what I think all good things people can be about(Food, Wellness,Art,Love) I have been to these places(A tea room in NY) with these people, biked with them in creating more creating, that makes me feel whole. I like the look of contentment on Carrie"s face(red shirt and bike shorts) Look at the others; some who did not bike to the tea house but are happy, being there to knit. I can only say that I never before have imagined bringing knitting with me on my bike before. I do not know how Carrie has been able to do all this creating for our group. It is great to see her out living in her wears and making them as she goes. Nothing to do with my class just something to note and share.

This show was an uplifting, inspiring visit with the Johnson Community. Cestmir Suska and his wife stood around this community made sculpture and told us the story of the Magic Table Cloth, a Czech folk tale which inspired the piece. The most interesting part of this work is how it was accomplished with school children and their 17 son Andrew who came to Vermont with them. Everyone learned the the process and techniques of making prints from the rusty pieces and then how to secure them into the cement. Aside from having a hand at new skills like welding,the participants ages 10 and up learned about how storytelling is a huge part of everything int he Czech Republic. We have learned this from knowing quite well this family of artists. The telling of the story,the final piece and the night was that we all were amazed at the perseverance of the inception of the project four years ago and the completion in connection to Leila Bandar and the Johnson Community. Each of the puzzle pieces in the mosaic were stored by Leila for four years after a residency that Cestmir had in 2006 where he made his first Rusty Flower sculptures made out of old metal holding tanks. In the story, Magic Table Cloth, we learned about the value of the creative process and the results of hard work, that take us to new places if one has a commitment to making an idea come to life, in Cestmir's case, using the positive and negative triangles, squares, crescent moons, petal shapes that come out the large pattered, carved metal forms. That they were stored until possible to complete this creative project that inspired more ideas that live now from the traces of Cestmir's imagination, commitment to his resources/materials/skills, his community at home and in Vermont and most importantly to his friends and family. Extraordinary!!! You must try to go see this beautiful sculpture garden and have a picnic there.

I posted this because I am beginning to look at the idea of performance and what that means to me as an artist. A friend suggested I think about Magicians Without Boarders for a new point of reference in my own art. Maybe even something will come of it with our daughter. I think she would have a blast learning to perform and teach others how to be free and silly.

Patterning these colors on the walls started me thinking about Fibonacci. Imagine being the person who formulated and used the 3,5,8 sequencing to create a universal pattern? Lately I have been using this theory of proportional ratios to think about how I paint using such a wide spectrum of colors. These colors are everywhere we look. I suppose I am the conduit, or memory for each of these colors on the wall. Even though I made them they also exist outside of each one in this light filled room. Stepping into a new canvas, blank and unsure, can be either one of excitement or intrepid fear, hesitation. This has never been my approach to paint. It used to be that the lugging of paints up a hillside to paint plain air triggered this compulsion. What would one do at the top of a hill after setting up all her gear and then freeze and not paint? Once a notion of light enters my head, I can not wait to get physically invested in thinking with paint. The patterning of the marks is highly dependent on which way I feel like moving my body. Because I trust my body and my tools, which are wheels rolled in paint, I can just go and let what happens to the canvas be a dance with light. Light is upon me so I am compelled to let it come in, intrinsically and directly so that I can make my art. The walls are filled with a wide spectrum of light and dark canvases, tactile, visual pleasures, surface covered with paint:Painted.

One’s a-lift, dusted pollinating orange, red tinted-light in their quiet distant silence.
Closer to then now-
The sweat, the toil both Lindbergh and Earhart imagined, lived -this instantaneous soaring above mountains free.
Their green texture, a coarse sand paper blanketed below, gripped by an enveloping illusion of flattened space-sideways “stitched” planes.
Maria and I speak about birds, if they could understand about happiness and fun as they swing while they ride. Removed from the work of our living a-drift.
